Patents & Patent Applications

We have the skills to help you prosecute and obtain effective patents to protect your intellectual property. As a patent examiner at the USPTO, I helped applicants get patents. That training has guided me through the years. Now, I continue to do the same thing, but with the perspective of what it takes to get it done.

IP Management

IP management is a critical aspect of developing and maintaining an IP portfolio. IP portfolios can become quite large, spanning many countries and jurisdictions. Consistency in claims and prosecution is critical to enforceability. We understand this, and have deep experience with these issues.

IP Support

The protection of IP is a multifaceted endeavor. We know how to navigate the IP landscape that surrounds complex technologies. From prior art analyses, to freedom-to-operate, we do it all.

Practice Specialties

At Longton IP Law, we strive to provide a higher level of quality, professionalism, and service to our clients than what they have come to expect from larger firms. Intellectual property has been, and remains, critical for innovative businesses, but the costs associated with obtaining and protecting IP rights has become more prohibitive over the years. At Longton IP Law, our goal is to protect your IP at reasonable rates so that you can continue to invest in innovation, and move your business forward.

Rick has a Ph.D. in chemistry from Penn State University where he specialized in enzymology and molecular biology. The following years included a post-doctoral appointment at a major US pharmaceutical company, then four years as a biotech patent examiner at the USPTO. For the last 20 years, Rick has been in private practice as a patent attorney.

Working Together

Addressing your IP needs requires a deep understanding of your technology. There are many aspects of IP and we do it all. For example, drafting and prosecuting a patent application to protect your innovative technology requires a close collaboration between the inventors and your patent attorney. We stand ready to make that happen.
